Tesla New Model Car in India: Tesla’s entry into India marks a significant milestone for the country’s electric vehicle (EV) journey. With the launch of the Model Y in July 2025 and other models like the Model 3, Model S, and Model X in the pipeline, Tesla is set to change how Indian buyers view premium electric mobility. Known globally for combining technology, performance, and sustainability, Tesla’s arrival is already generating buzz among EV enthusiasts and luxury car buyers alike.

Tesla Model Y: The First Step in India

The Tesla Model Y is the first Tesla to be officially sold in India. Launched on July 15, 2025, this compact electric SUV has been designed with both versatility and style in mind, making it a practical choice for families and city drivers. Built on the same platform as the Model 3, it offers a sleek, aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of around 0.23, LED headlights, and a panoramic glass roof.

Inside, it features a 15.4-inch central touchscreen that controls almost all functions, from navigation to climate control, along with an 8-inch rear passenger display for entertainment. Buyers can choose an optional 7-seat configuration, while heated seats across all rows, a 17-speaker premium audio system, and a HEPA air filtration system make for a comfortable and clean cabin experience—ideal for India’s urban conditions.

On the safety front, the Model Y comes with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. Eight onboard cameras provide 360° visibility, and the car has earned a 5-star global safety rating. The optional Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, priced at around ₹6 lakh, is awaiting regulatory approval but promises future autonomous driving capabilities through over-the-air updates.

Performance-wise, there are two rear-wheel-drive variants:

  • Standard Range – 60 kWh LFP battery, ~455 km WLTP range, 0–100 km/h in ~6.6 seconds.
  • Long Range – 75 kWh NMC battery, ~622 km WLTP range, 0–100 km/h in ~5 seconds.

Real-world range in India is expected between 350–550 km, depending on driving conditions. Thanks to 250 kW DC fast charging, the Model Y can add ~200 km of range in just 15 minutes. Prices start at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to ₹67.89 lakh, with on-road prices ranging from ₹65–75 lakh, depending on state subsidies.

Tesla has already opened Experience Centres in Mumbai and Delhi, with more planned in Gurugram and Bangalore, making the Model Y widely accessible to interested buyers.

Tesla Model 3: The Affordable Sedan

Expected in mid-2026, the Tesla Model 3 aims to bring Tesla’s technology to a broader audience. Recently spotted testing on Indian roads, it boasts a sleek design with a 0.219 drag coefficient, making it one of the most aerodynamic production cars in the world. The interior mirrors the minimalism of the Model Y, featuring a large central touchscreen, rear entertainment screen, panoramic roof, vegan leather upholstery, wireless charging, and premium audio.

Performance variants will include:

  • Standard Range Plus – 57.5 kWh battery, ~513 km WLTP range, 0–100 km/h in ~6 seconds.
  • Long Range – 82 kWh battery, ~629 km WLTP range, 0–100 km/h in ~4.2 seconds.
  • Performance – 82 kWh battery, ~528 km WLTP range, 0–100 km/h in ~2.9 seconds.

Expected prices will range between ₹55–70 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a competitive option for buyers looking for a premium EV sedan in India.

Tesla Model S: The Flagship Luxury Sedan

Slated for early 2026, the Model S will cater to buyers seeking unmatched performance and comfort. Available in Long Range and Plaid versions, it offers breathtaking acceleration—0–100 km/h in just 1.99 seconds for the Plaid variant. It comes with a futuristic yoke steering wheel, 17-inch infotainment display, panoramic roof, ventilated seats, and a range of over 650 km WLTP. Prices will likely start from ₹1.5 crore and go up to ₹2 crore (ex-showroom).

Tesla Model X: Space Meets Luxury

The Model X, expected by June 2026, is a full-size electric SUV with unique Falcon Wing doors. It offers configurations for 5, 6, or 7 seats, advanced climate control, premium audio, and a range of up to 560 km WLTP. Prices could range from ₹80 lakh to ₹2 crore depending on the variant.

Tesla Showrooms and Charging Network in India

Tesla has opened two dealerships so far—Mumbai and Delhi Aerocity—and both locations have Supercharger stations. Using these chargers, a Model Y can gain 238–267 km of range in just 15 minutes. More charging locations are planned in Saket, Noida, and Gurugram.

Tesla also plans to introduce mobile servicing, remote diagnostics, and tie-ups with third-party collision repair centres—services that mirror Tesla’s global support structure.

Tesla Owners in India

Even before Tesla’s official arrival, some Indian billionaires and celebrities already owned Teslas. These include Prashant Ruia, Mukesh Ambani, Riteish Deshmukh, Mahesh Murthy, and Vishal Gondal. Their collection includes the Model X, Model S, and Model 3, reflecting the brand’s prestige appeal.

Tesla’s Competition in India

Tesla faces competition from established and emerging players like Tata Motors, Mahindra, BYD, and VinFast. While most competitors price their EVs lower than Tesla, the American automaker’s focus on technology, range, and performance aims to set it apart in the premium EV space.

The Road Ahead

With India’s EV policies becoming more supportive and Tesla’s plans for local manufacturing under discussion, the brand could eventually launch a more affordable model priced between ₹21–30 lakh. For now, Tesla’s line-up—led by the Model Y—offers Indian buyers a taste of global EV luxury, performance, and innovation.
